The Pembroke Pines Planning & Zoning Board on Jan. 1 approved a consent-item application from BJ's Wholesale after the applicant said recent exterior work was done as part of a corporate branding initiative and that the company had submitted the application to rectify an inadvertent permitting violation.
During discussion, Member Jones asked why the business had already completed the painting without prior approval and said any business that had done work without permission would be pulled from consent. Anthony Rodriguez, an attorney representing BJ's, said the work was part of a corporate initiative to align stores with company branding and that BJ's had been in contact with senior planner Mr. Williams while preparing a unified application "to rectify the violation." Vice Chair Amber Goldich asked about the bold color choice and whether the company would seek approval before making future changes. Rodriguez said BJ's would seek approval going forward; Goldich moved to approve the consent item and the board voted in favor. Member Doris Gonzales seconded an earlier procedural motion to approve the Dec. 11 minutes before the consent discussion.
No formal penalties or additional conditions were recorded on the consent-item approval beyond the applicant's verbal assurance that future changes would be coordinated with staff.
