Royal Oak commission sets calendar, confirms mayor pro tem and adopts rules of procedure

After seating the newly sworn commissioners, the Royal Oak City Commission moved quickly through organizational business on Nov. 24, approving the meeting agenda and a series of routine governance items.
Commissioner Chisholm moved approval of the meeting agenda, seconded by Commissioner Herzog, and the motion passed on a voice vote. The commission also adjusted the 2026 meeting schedule to move the Sept. 21 meeting to Sept. 28 to avoid a religious scheduling conflict; Commissioner Chisholm made the motion to change the calendar, with Commissioner Herzog seconding the motion.
Mayor Pro Tem Monica Hunt nominated Commissioner Amanda Herzog to serve as mayor pro tem; the nomination drew supportive comments from colleagues and was approved by voice vote. ‘‘I am very honored to take this new role,’’ Herzog said after the vote.
Council members also approved routine organizational items required at the start of a commission term: a performance bond (moved by Commissioner Kolo, seconded by Commissioner Hunt) and adoption of the rules of procedure, which retained Robert’s Rules as the baseline with a small, memorialized housekeeping amendment recommended by staff. Assignments of commissioners to boards and committees were presented by Mayor Fournier and approved by motion (moved by Commissioner Bastian, seconded by Commissioner Herzog). All procedural measures passed without recorded opposition.
These votes complete the formal organization of the 53rd Royal Oak City Commission and set the administrative framework for its work over the coming year.
