Sylvania architectural review panel approves three business sign and exterior renovation applications

The Board of Architectural Review on Jan. 14 approved three separate applications covering signage and exterior renovations for existing commercial properties.

Tim Burns, the city zoning administrator, told the board that regulated sign application 39-2025, requested by Maria Molina of Veil La Luz Marketing for Referees Sports Bar & Grill at 7625 West Sylvania Avenue, meets the city's sign code and that window signage falls within the glazing-percentage allowance. "The signs do meet the sign code," Burns said, and staff reported no objection from the zoning office. The record shows the signs were already installed under temporary permits; the business is open and pursuing a liquor-permit transfer.

In a separate matter the commission approved building review application 40-2025 for the Jay Fox Agency (Allstate) at 5726 Alexis. Applicant Casey Sampico said the project includes a new roof, new siding and reconfiguration of an existing alcove, and that much of the work affects the north side of the building and is not highly visible from Alexis Road. "We're going to bring that out to where the back of the building is, in essence, one plane," Sampico said. Zoning staff reported no objections to the renovation.

The board also approved regulated sign application 1-2026 for a bakery-and-grooming tenant moving into the Kroger plaza. The application, filed by Kelly Moore of Fast Signs and presented by a representative identified as Lauren, described a standard raceway with channel letters consistent with the tenant's national branding. Burns again told the panel the proposal meets the sign code.

All three items passed on voice vote. The board recorded an administrative note that an upcoming application for the Ability Center was pulled from tonight's agenda and will appear next month.

The Board of Architectural Review adjourned after completing the listed items.
