Brookings council appoints Jim Gelato to fill vacant council seat

After interviewing three local applicants, the Brookings City Council voted to appoint Jim Gelato to fill the vacant council seat number 2.

The council drew interview order and heard from Nicholas Chapman, Jim Gelato and Anthony Bond. Following deliberations in which councilors weighed private-sector perspective, tourism and infrastructure experience, and local ties, multiple motions were made. A motion to appoint Jim Gelato was moved, seconded and carried on a recorded vote. Gelato recited the oath of office and thanked the council: "I am humbled and honored and grateful to be appointed to this position and look forward to getting educated on my new role," he said.
