The council approved an agreement with the National Park Service covering the Marquette Greenway segment funded by a Next Level Trails grant that will connect the Burns Harbor section of the trail to the town of Porter; the council authorized the president to sign the document.
Burns Harbor officials voted to approve an agreement with the National Park Service for the Marquette Greenway segment that will connect the town’s portion of the trail to neighboring Porter, officials said.
An RDC representative told the council the printed agreement had been negotiated down from a much larger initial draft and was reviewed extensively by staff and the RDC. “This is the agreement with the National Park Service for Marquette Greenway PACE 1B through the Mononoke Trail,” the RDC representative said, adding the segment “is funded with the Next Level Trails grant and will connect the Burns Harbor section of the trail to the town of Porter.”
The redevelopment commission recommended the council approve the agreement and authorized the council president to sign. The Presiding Official moved to allow the president to sign the document; the motion passed on a roll call vote. Council members did not raise substantive objections on the record.
The approval clears the way for the town to accept the National Park Service terms for that trail segment and to proceed with next steps required by the grant and agreement.
