Brandon council approves contracts, equipment surplus and design work; adopts salaries resolution

The Brandon City Council approved a package of routine items and contracts at its meeting, including the city's annual salaries resolution, an animal-control contract, equipment purchases and a storm-sewer design contract for Redwood Boulevard.

Council adopted Resolution 01-2026 setting wages and salaries for the year after staff noted the item must be acted on at the first meeting of the year and that adjustments for full-time employees are handled separately during the year. A councilor asked whether planning and zoning compensation was adequate compared with other boards; councilors agreed changes could be brought back as a separate resolution.

The council approved the city's 2026 contract with the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Animal-control staff (Jamie) told the council the contract arrived after the prior meeting and included customary annual increases. "There is some increases noted there in the request," Jamie said; staff said the city tries to minimize use of outside services when possible.

Council approved a turf mower purchase and a 2026 UTX document in voice votes, then approved putting a 2003 International dump truck and plow up for auction on Purple Wave to satisfy surplus requirements. Public-works staff said Purple Wave has performed well for previous auctions.

City engineer Dan reported that the Redwood Boulevard storm-sewer project, originally scoped as three phases, will move forward with phases 2 and 3 together; council approved the design contract so the project can proceed toward bidding.

The meeting opened with a parks-and-recreation report noting a record golf season with just over 33,000 rounds and roughly 300 season passes sold.
