Iredell County commissioners approve consent items, reappoint zoning board members and recognize parks director

The Iredell County Board of Commissioners approved a slate of consent and administrative items at its Jan. 6 meeting, reappointed two zoning board of adjustment members and publicly recognized Parks and Recreation Director Daniel Leatherman for a state leadership role.
County Manager Milton summarized consent items the board had agreed to place on the consent agenda following a 4:00 p.m. pre‑agenda review. Those items included an amendment to opioid settlement funding (moving funds between strategies), Library budget amendment #23 to accept a $2,175 Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) scholarship grant from the State Library of North Carolina, and Veteran Services budget amendment #22 to accept a $600 Walmart Spark Good grant to purchase two monitors for a 'wall of heroes.' The board approved the consent items by voice vote after Commissioner Brown moved to approve.
The board also reappointed two members to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. John Allen and Trey Robertson volunteered to continue serving and Commissioner Haupt moved to approve both reappointments; the motion passed by voice vote.
Earlier in the meeting the board recognized Daniel Leatherman, the county’s parks and recreation director, for his recent election as president‑elect of the North Carolina Recreation and Parks Association, a three‑year officer sequence that will include terms as president and past president. Leatherman thanked the board, staff and his recreation team for their support.
Manager Milton also listed several board and commission vacancies that remain open, including six appointments on the Adult Care Home Advisory Committee and three appointments on the Board of Health that require specific professional disciplines (a nurse, a veterinarian and a dentist) as statutorily required. He said information and applications are available on the county website or via Clerk to the Board John Best.
Other calendar items the board noted: county offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and the county’s annual employee and retiree luncheon is scheduled for Jan. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Civic Center.
No closed session was held; the board adjourned by motion and voice vote.
