Lincoln Heights leaders review multi-year land-use plan; planning commission recommended adoption

The Village of Lincoln Heights committee of the whole discussed Resolution 2026 R-5 on Jan. 12, a measure to adopt a multi-year land-use plan that the planning commission approved and forwarded to council.
Mayor Tanya Key said the plan has been in development for several years and is needed to build a structure for business and housing development and to pursue additional planning funding. Charles Shockley, president of the planning commission, provided a written recommendation that the council approve the plan.
Council members asked whether the plan—developed in 2021—remained current after five years. Councilwoman Saritha Brown asked whether a re-review was necessary. Gaines Brown and Councilman Norvary Tate said adopting the plan is important for strategic and master planning; Mayor Key said the planning commission had recently reviewed the plan in its totality and that adjustments can be made later through committee if circumstances change.
What happens next: The resolution was presented as a first reading and the committee indicated support for moving it forward to council for final action; council members noted the option to amend the plan later if updated data or circumstances require revisions.
