Lake Central school board elects officers, reappoints treasurer and attorneys

The Lake Central School Corporation convened its 2026 organizational meeting and approved a slate of routine organizational items.
A board member nominated continuing the current officers for the 2025–26 year; the motion named Cindy Sues as president, Janice Malco as vice president and Nicole Kelly as secretary. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board unanimously reaffirmed its code of ethics and approved appointments for legal counsel: continuing Jackie Pilar of Pilar Jones as general counsel, retaining Monica Conrad for special-education matters, and adding Eric Long of Ice Miller (Indianapolis) for potential bond counsel. The board reappointed Ed Sopko as corporation treasurer.
Members also discussed and approved liaison and committee appointments (personnel interview committee, redevelopment commissions, wellness committee, and the Lake Central Education Foundation assignments) and confirmed that each member had read the conflict-of-interest policy before a motion to adopt. All motions recorded in the organizational portion passed on aye votes.
These actions were procedural and intended to establish governance continuity for the coming year.
