Sandra Hardy, Spalding County voter registration coordinator, told the Board of Elections on Jan. 13 that the office processed 1,671 applications on the state dashboard tile and added 644 new voters since the prior report, bringing the active total to about 53,429 registered voters. Hardy said the office had completed 81% of its physical card audit and listed categories of activity (new registrations, transfers, address and name changes) for the period ending Jan. 11.
Elections Director Kim Spalding announced qualifying for the May general primary will take place the week of March 2, with hours beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at noon on Friday, March 6. She listed the local seats to be qualified by the office — county commission districts 2 and 5, state solicitor general, and board of education districts 13 and 5 — and explained qualifying fees are set by state law based on a percentage of the office salary.
The director also said the county manager had reported that renovation bidding for newly acquired elections office space is moving forward and staff thanked county administrators for supporting a facility that Spalding said will be ready before the May election. Kim and board members publicly thanked Sandra Hardy and election staff for the workload involved in maintaining the registration dashboard and audit work.
No formal action was taken on these reports during the meeting; the board moved on to the director's precinct consolidation presentation after the report.
