Planning Commission places multiple land-use items on consent; approves event space and clears other routine items

At the Jan. 14 informal hearing the Virginia Beach Planning Commission placed eight applications on the consent agenda for recommendation to City Council and adopted those recommendations by recorded vote with noted abstentions.
Items placed on the consent agenda (staff-recommended approvals) included: the David and Robin Parker street closure on Winston Salem Avenue (item 2), a modification of conditions for 514 9th Street (item 3), a modification of conditions for Star of the Sea Catholic Church (item 4), a conditional rezoning to permit retail at 1st Colonial Road (item 6), the BIVI Paddle indoor recreational facility (item 8), a bulk storage/tow yard permit for See the Gems LLC (item 9), a monument sign replacement for Bank of America within the Central Business Core (item 11) and a temporary commercial parking lot by iFly Virginia Beach (item 12). Applicants and their representatives accepted staff conditions on each item during the hearing.
Separately, the commission recorded votes on specific procedural actions during the session: an applicant-requested 30-day deferral for agenda item 5 (Shaquilla Burner rezoning) was approved by recorded vote of 11 to 0; the commission also approved a conditional use permit for an assembly/event space by Zakiyah Wolcott (item 10) by recorded vote of 11 to 0.
