Board announced a joint session with county commissioners to share a district snapshot and to receive a county broadband update; staff clarified Oakwood Elementary renovations funded by a grant are system upgrades and not a full rebuild, and a two‑calendar survey was distributed for community input.
Caswell County Schools staff told the board on Jan. 22 they will meet jointly with county commissioners to share a district snapshot and to request a county update on broadband that could affect remote-learning plans.
Speaker 3 said the joint session is scheduled at Gunn Memorial Library and will include enrollment data, celebrations, county broadband updates and the county’s departmental budget timelines. "We are scheduled tomorrow to meet jointly with the county commissioners at the Gunn Memorial Library at 6PM," Speaker 3 said, adding there will be reciprocal question-and-answer time for both boards.
Staff also discussed a grant for Oakwood Elementary, explaining the funds are intended for systems upgrades and to bring the building up to code rather than for a complete rebuild. "This is not a complete rebuild of the school," Speaker 3 said. "This is just to renovate, upgrade systems ... to bring the building up to code, to 2025."
Separately, staff presented a calendar-survey package with two draft calendars and accompanying survey questions and asked the board to approve the survey language so the district can administer it promptly after the county calendar committee meets.
What’s next: The joint meeting with county commissioners will take place as scheduled to discuss broadband and the Oakwood grant; staff will finalize the calendar survey after the county committee meets and circulate results for board consideration.
