County board approves medical examiner on-call pay change and facilities staffing reorganization

Mister Brogland presented Ordinance 2025-16 to amend section HR0360 of the county personnel ordinances to provide on-call and call-out compensation for medical examiner investigators. The presentation said the change recognizes the irregular and emotionally demanding nature of the work and aligns with strategic goals to improve recruitment and retention; the 2026 budget includes funding for the change and no additional budget amendment was required.
The board also approved Resolution 202569 to eliminate two vacant supervisory positions (a building maintenance supervisor and a lead custodian) and create a full-time building maintenance worker II and a full-time custodial supervisor in the facilities department. According to the fiscal note using 2025 payroll data, the proposed restructuring would reduce wage costs by $30,199; savings not otherwise used by central services will revert to the general fund.
Both items were recommended by the human resources committee and passed by voice vote with no questions recorded.
