Senior center reports successful fundraising, expanded services and upcoming programs

Representatives of the Hillsdale County Senior Center updated the Board of Commissioners on recent programming and fundraising. The center said two recent drives — a Thanksgiving appeal and the "great give" — raised $5,620 and $19,370 respectively in support of repairing the roof above the nutrition department.
The center reported a net of $24,557 for the first two months of the fiscal year and said the organization expects to revise its FY‑2026 budget in light of better‑than‑expected revenue. Programs highlighted include Medicare open‑enrollment assistance (108 clients served during the Oct. 15–Dec. 7 period), technology classes in partnership with Hillsdale High School National Honor Society and Hillsdale Area Career Center, monthly support groups (Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s), Lifeline screenings, Red Cross blood drives and a Kinship Care support group for grandparents raising grandchildren.
The center also noted community partnerships that supported holiday programs including Reading Community Schools, Reading United Methodist Church, Barrett Insurance, Green Energy LP, Edward Jones and Walmart. The annual Angel Tree program served 106 older adults this year, surpassing last year’s total. Staff and commissioners asked questions about program scheduling and upcoming events (senior breakfast on Jan. 14 at 8:30 a.m.; technology classes Jan. 14–Feb. 18; podiatry clinic Jan. 24).
