Melissa Shepherd, assistant supervisor of business and operations, gave a brief facilities update on La Cañada High School’s track and turf project. She said the turf installation cost about $857,000 and the track about $700,000; both projects were paid from special reserve capital outlay funds (revenues from field rentals and related sources), not bond funds.
Shepherd said the turf was completed in 2025 and used for the recent football and band seasons and that the track was nearly finished pending a final vendor walk and closure. She noted community access has resumed outside school hours, that some parking was lost during construction, and that the district’s grounds team will perform monthly maintenance to preserve the approximately 10-year expected life/warranty of both surfaces.
Board members expressed appreciation that the facility was back in community use and noted its value for both school and public fitness activities.
