County schedules drainage-study public meetings in February, funded by CDBG-MIT planning grant

Aransas County staff updated the commissioners on a countywide drainage study and said public notices for multiple meeting opportunities will be finalized this week. The meetings, funded through CDBG-MIT planning grants, are intended to gather local knowledge about flood risks and priorities for future projects.

Project staff said there will be four opportunities (duplicate content at different times/locations) on Feb. 3 with morning and evening sessions at sites including Drifters RV Resort clubhouse and the Lamar Volunteer Fire Department; each meeting will present the same materials and residents are asked to attend one session. The effort is planning/analysis only; staff emphasized the CDBG-MIT funds do not include construction money.

Staff outlined planned outreach channels: the county website, city and town cross-posting, social media (Facebook, Nextdoor), possible mailers, notices filed with the county clerk, and print notices in the local newspaper. The county engineer's consultant will host the meetings and provide a survey link for those unable to attend.

Commissioners asked how the county will publicize meetings in specific precincts and communities; staff said they will place notices at post offices and partner with local volunteer fire departments and community organizations to reach residents.
