At its January 13 meeting the Conway City Council handled a slate of routine organizational and administrative items. The council waived three readings for five ordinances, unanimously adopted its annual rules and procedures for fiscal year 2026 (R-26-001), and unanimously approved the nomination of Courtney Grady to fill a partial term on the Oak Grove Cemetery Board through Dec. 31, 2026.
The council approved three transportation contracts funded by the Transportation Alternatives program: Independent Living Services ($30,000), Boys & Girls Club of Faulkner County ($80,000) and Faulkner County Council on Aging ($92,000). One council member noted a conflict of interest because they serve on one of the boards and abstained from the vote; the resolution passed 7–0 with one abstention.
Council also introduced and later tabled or held several other items for future meetings: an ordinance to rezone 3910 and 3920 Tyler Street from A1 to R2 was tabled at the applicant’s request; a bookkeeping ordinance authorizing FY2026 positions across departments (six firefighters, groundskeepers, an administrative assistant, an animal welfare kennel technician, and a full-time lifeguard) was approved.
The council also read and approved a resolution supporting revival of the federal surplus property program administered by the state (R-26-03), a program the city has used in the past. During business the council noted it will provide updates on Conway Metro and discussed possible service adjustments and contract issues affecting wait times.
