Council accepts plan to relocate senior programming to Eastgate and proclaims Jeff Strong’s retirement

Cedric Henson, identified on the record as administrator for the Department of Community Development, briefed the council on a proposed relocation of senior programming to Eastgate Town Center. Henson said the move follows senior‑advisory‑board feedback about parking, limited scheduling, storage and accessibility at the previous site. He told council the Eastgate proposal would increase usable space by more than 50%—to approximately 15,000 square feet—and provide roughly 5,000 additional square feet compared with the prior location. The city selected a turnkey construction approach with Eastgate management to speed delivery and reduce administrative friction, Henson said, and emphasized that the senior advisory board was engaged throughout the planning process.
Council members praised the administration for responding to seniors’ concerns and noted the department will return with implementation details; the community development committee recessed and the full council resumed its agenda afterward.
