Marple Newtown staff seek transfers for generator repairs, sewage remediation; donations noted

Marple Newtown School District officials on Tuesday reviewed several finance items and asked the board to schedule formal votes at an upcoming meeting.
Dominic, the district finance/transportation speaker, told the board the packet includes general fund, capital reserve and food-service checks covering nearly two months and that a second check run will be presented before the next voting meeting. He said the administration proposes two transfers from capital reserve: one to cover extensive district-wide generator repairs and a second to contribute the district's portion of costs for sewage remediation at Marple Newtown High School, noting the district received insurance proceeds but the remediation exceeded insurance coverage.
Dominic said the district will dispose of an out-of-service van that needs major engine and air-conditioning work and will attempt to sell it through Munis auction; if unsold, it will be scrapped. He also described a proposed purchase of a food-service box truck to move meals between buildings: the truck would be purchased from the food-service fund, the vendor quote is under a federal-qualifying contract, and the purchase is pending review by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) before staff will bring it to the voting meeting in two weeks.
The packet included routine requests for abatements of tax-penalty charges; Dominic said staff review each folio to confirm the penalty is a first-time occurrence before recommending forgiveness of the penalty portion (not the tax principal). He also reported two donations: $1,000 from the Newtown Township Police Department to the high-school life-skills program and a classroom sensory fish tank (nonliving) donated in memory of Maddie Gilgen by Jen Tate and friends.
The solicitor has recommended a resolution finalizing a tax appeal for the board's review, Dominic said, and no public comment was offered at the meeting.
Next steps: staff will bring the transfers, the box-truck purchase (pending PDE approval), and the recommended tax-appeal resolution to the district's next voting meeting for formal action.
