Cedar Springs board adopts emergency-removal revisions and approves policy bundles

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Cedar Springs Public Schools Board of Education adopted a revised emergency removal, suspension and expulsion policy for non-disabled students (Version 2) after discussion and a roll-call vote.
Under the adopted Version 2, administration may proceed with certain long-term suspension decisions in consultation with the board president for suspensions up to 45 days; suspensions longer than that require full board action. The policy packet and board discussion also described written notification procedures and appeal rights for families; administrators said appeal steps would include immediate written notice of suspension and an opportunity for a hearing before the full board if requested.
Board members also approved the fall 2025 NEOLA policy revisions as presented and authorized budgets for conferences, conventions and workshops for board members, all by roll-call votes. The board approved an additional policy item listed in the packet following motion and recorded votes.
The actions were taken during the action portion of the Jan. 12 meeting; administration indicated the adopted policy changes will be reflected in published board policies and implemented through standard administrative processes for notification and appeals.
