Georgetown OKs $26,000 for Town Circle design and approves crosswalk art plan

Georgetown — The Town Council voted Jan. 12 to pay $26,000 for design and permitting work for a Town Circle safety project and to sign a DelDOT agreement to install commemorative crosswalk art.
Council approved a contract with DBF that staff said covers design and construction administration for work intended to prevent vehicles from entering the circle. The project as described would permanently secure bollards and relocate two monuments to reduce vulnerability; staff said the $26,000 fee does not include the cost of the bollards or other products, which will be determined during procurement.
"The design permitting is $26,000," the presiding official said in presenting the item; an engineer clarified the fee is for DBF's design and administration but not for products.
Councilors asked whether the proposal encircles the entire feature and received technical answers that the improvements would be installed in sections (from light pole to light pole) with rebar connections so striking one would engage the run. The council approved the contract by roll call.
On a separate but related streetscape item, councilors agreed to sign a DelDOT agreement permitting blue-and-gold star crosswalk art at the circle's four crossovers as part of the America 250 commemoration; DelDOT must approve work on state-controlled streets. That agreement was approved by unanimous roll call.
What happens next: Staff will proceed to bid the larger construction work once design documents and cost estimates are complete.
