The Assumption Parish Police Jury held nominations and votes for 2026 leadership at the start of its regular meeting. Jurors opened nominations for police juror president; a nominee was put forward and jurors voted to elect the nominee. The jury then nominated and elected a vice president and finalized 2026 committee assignments.
The outgoing president told jurors he would not seek the presidency again and urged the jury to consider either creating a full-time parish manager position with a director of public works or moving to a consolidated elected-council form, saying current part-time structures make it difficult to manage the growing administrative workload. Jurors discussed the burdens of meeting schedules and project oversight and emphasized the need for sustained administrative support to keep projects moving.
Following nominations, jurors confirmed committee rosters for 2026: drainage, road & bridge, finance, recreation, engineering, solid waste, personnel, federal programs and emergency preparedness. Several jurors agreed to swap chairs or membership to ensure coverage; the jury voted to accept the list of committee assignments.
The meeting proceeded with committee reports and routine business after the leadership votes. The new leadership will take on the procedural and signature responsibilities of the office for the 2026 term.
