The Assumption Parish Police Jury adopted its 2026 budgets, approved submission of a Restore Act multiyear plan to fund Bayushan floodgate maintenance, and voted to opt out of the state’s model solar farm regulations, keeping the parish’s locally adopted rules in place.
At a presentation to the jury, staff outlined the Restore Act multiyear plan that projects $1,040,469 over the first 12 years and recommended using the funds primarily for maintenance of the Bayushan floodgate. The plan included an early-year allocation schedule and staff recommended posting the plan for a 45-day public review before final submission. The jury adopted a resolution authorizing the president to sign and submit the plan.
Later in the meeting the jury opened and closed a public hearing on the proposed 2026 budgets, received no public comments, and then approved the budgets as presented.
The jury also heard from the South Central Planning and Development Commission, which compared the parish’s solar farm ordinance to the state’s regulations and recommended opting out of the statewide rules because Assumption Parish’s standards are already more stringent in most respects (for example, the parish’s minimum acreage is 20 acres vs. 75 acres in the state model). Jurors voted to adopt a resolution opting out and to retain local regulations; the staff offered to update any areas the jury wanted to align with state standards at no charge.
Other approvals included: a resolution to amend Section 8 waiting-list intake procedures to allow future intake for elderly (62+) and disabled heads of household; authorization for the president to sign several routine contracts (mosquito control, jail plumbing repairs, ballpark roof replacement); and adoption of Ordinance 20-01 levying derelict structure charges totaling $32,979.23. The jury also approved awards and deducts for the Grand Park Pavilion project to bring the contract within budget.
The jury handled licenses and proclamations (including a proclamation recognizing Catholic School Week in January 2026) and adjourned. Public comment during the budget hearing was not received.
What’s next: staff will post the Restore Act plan for public review, monitor any public comments, and proceed with contract execution and grant-related administration as approved.
