Building department reports big year in permits; public works starts sewer‑lining project

Boone — City staff provided year‑end departmental updates: the building department reported substantial permit activity and public works announced the start of a sanitary sewer lining project.

Building Official Dave delivered a year‑end summary of permit revenues and valuation growth. He said the department brought in approximately $21,000 in electrical permit fees and about $9,000 in mechanical permit fees. During his remarks he initially said "a little over $1,500" for plumbing permits and then corrected that figure to "$25,000 in plumbing fees." He also said sign permits totaled "a little over $1,500." The building permit fee total for the year was reported as roughly $276,000 and the department estimated about $41,000,000 of added building valuation for the year. Dave told the council the larger Daisy plant permit revenue is expected to arrive in the coming fiscal year.

Director of Public Works Wayland told the council the FY2026 sanitary sewer cured‑in‑place lining project mobilized that day. He warned residents on affected blocks that there will be construction equipment and limited water‑use advisories posted on doors. Wayland also said public‑works crews are removing holiday decorations and trimming trees on snow‑route streets as staff prepare for winter maintenance.

Both presenters framed the updates as operational matters; no formal council action was taken on the items beyond acknowledgment and a vote on travel and other agenda items elsewhere in the meeting.
