Salinas council recognizes new hires, promotions and commemorates MLK Day; youth council presents priorities

During the Jan. 13 Salinas City Council meeting the council acknowledged several personnel changes and recognitions: Daisy Martinez was promoted to permit‑center clerk; Guadalupe Perez joined the neighborhood services team; Miguel Munoz was introduced as a public-works equipment mechanic; the Fire Department announced promotions to captain (Sergio Ruiz and Ryan Maccubri) and named Nick Thomas Salinas Firefighter of the Year; and Captain Frankie Rodriguez was recognized for 27 years of service and retirement.
Councilmember Sandoval introduced a proclamation honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 19) and invited Interfaith Coalition leaders to accept and publicize community events (Jan. 18 celebration and candlelight vigil). The youth council presented its 2026 work plan and emphasized youth engagement on violence prevention, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and youth programming; city staff and council members encouraged the youth to incorporate recommendations into the budget process for potential funding.
Councilmembers and staff thanked volunteers from the Holiday Parade committee and several community organizations highlighted park stewardship and volunteer plans for Ensign Community Park.
