The committee approved a weeklong marine science trip to the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole for seniors and juniors; donor Saul Pannell underwrites tuition and teachers, and the district will fund buses and substitutes.
The Lynn School Committee voted unanimously to approve a field trip to the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, a multi-day residential science program for Lynn high school juniors and seniors.
Trip leader Mr. Winchester described the program’s revival after COVID, said donor Saul Pannell has funded tuition and teacher costs for several years, and said district costs are limited to bus transportation and substitute coverage for teachers who attend. He said the program has grown to 36 students this year and that it offers intensive, secure, dorm-based laboratory experiences.
The superintendent recommended approval; a member moved and a second was recorded. The clerk called roll; Member Castellanos, Member Gaitley, Member Ortiz McGrath, Member Pena, Member Satterwhite, Member Smith, and Mayor Nicholson all voted yes.
The committee asked the trip leader to provide an update to the committee after the trip.
