Lynn Public Schools highlights pre-K expansion, multilingual learner supports and new CTE partnerships

District leadership presented a summary of programs and system improvements, starting with early education: pre‑K capacity rose from 460 seats last year to 693 this year, a 52% increase, and a task force—working with the mayor’s office—is studying expansion to eligible three‑year‑olds.

Multilingual learner (MLE) initiatives include a districtwide professional learning hub in partnership with WestEd and rollout of QTEL (Quality Teaching for English Learners) to strengthen content-based instruction. The district also expanded Flashlight 360, a progress-monitoring platform for multilingual learners, from secondary schools into seven elementary schools and said it observed improvements in speaking and writing domains during the first year.

Career and technical education (CTE) updates include approved Part A applications for environmental sciences at Lynn Vocational Technical Institute (LVTI) and business technology at Lynn English and Lynn Classical; Part B applications are due in March. The innovation office is coordinating expanded work-based learning with Lynn Community Health to create about 70 additional student seats. The district emphasized the use of Allaview for collaborative budgeting and new tools for transparency, and announced a forthcoming teacher "stay" survey to inform retention work.

Leadership also announced the creation of a grants administrator position to improve grant monitoring and cited a $435,000 DESE grant to expand the dual-language program at Thurgood Marshall Middle School. The district said attendance-monitoring cycles across 29 schools are showing positive early results.
