The California State Board of Pharmacy Communication and Public Education Committee reviewed staff’s draft sample notice to help pharmacies comply with Assembly Bill 1503, which requires chain community pharmacies to post notice, in a prominent place for pharmacy personnel, about how to file a complaint with the Board.
Chair Nicole Thiebaud explained the draft notice (attachment 5) is intended for pharmacy personnel, not consumers, and includes QR codes linking to the board’s complaint form, an FAQ on the complaint process, and a compilation of relevant pharmacy laws. Thiebaud noted the legal requirement to post such a notice became effective on Jan. 1, 2026.
Renee Barker recommended making the headline explicit so it reads, in effect, “how to file a complaint with the California Board of Pharmacy,” to make the notice more visible from a distance. Staff said they can revise that language and “massage” phrasing about the law compilation and QR links to make the notice clearer for staff at a glance. Committee members also discussed that pharmacies may develop their own notices but that the sample is intended to provide compliance guidance.
Staff will update the draft to reflect members’ suggested language changes before wider distribution. No formal vote was taken on the notice during the meeting.
