The Marshall City Council voted to call a public hearing for Feb. 10 on the South 5th Street reconstruction project covering Saratoga to Maine.
Jason Anderson, city engineer, presented the feasibility report and recommended moving the project forward. He outlined the scope as a full reconstruction that includes water-main and sanitary-sewer upgrades and substantial drainage improvements. Anderson said staff will hold a property-owner informational meeting on Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers and recommended adoption of the resolution to set a public hearing on Feb. 10.
Anderson said the "total estimated project cost at this point is about 1,200,000.0," which includes contingency and engineering fees. Council discussion touched on whether the alley between 5th and 6th would be addressed; staff said the project does not include the alley beyond the driveway apron but that special-assessment changes could make alley work more feasible for property owners.
The council adopted the resolution to receive the feasibility report and call the Feb. 10 hearing. Staff will proceed with outreach to affected property owners and publish hearing notices as required.
