The Las Vegas Board of Civil Service Trustees met Jan. 14 and approved the final minutes of its Dec. 10, 2025 meeting before taking action on a series of personnel items affecting city hiring lists.
The board certified multiple eligible lists for city job classifications, including concrete mason, engineering associate, parking technician supervisor, pool technician, streets and sanitation supervisor and traffic field supervisor, after Member Heche moved to approve the item and the membership recorded affirmative votes.
The trustees also approved additional staffing classifications brought forward as item 6, which included court operations supervisor, fire communications training and development coordinator, fire investigator, fire prevention inspector, human resources technician, law enforcement support technician, recreation coordinator and senior planner. Member Poticello moved to approve item 6 as read; members responded with affirmative votes.
During consideration of item 7, Andy Spurlock of the City of Las Vegas Human Resources Department asked the board to remove one position — "fire administrative battalion chief (40-hour week)" — from the package. "Staff is requesting that 1 item be removed from the overall number 7 item," Spurlock said. Member Hirsch then moved to approve the amended item; members voted in favor and the chair announced that item number 7 carries.
The board voted to abolish eligible lists for senior IT support technician and senior technical systems analyst under item 8 after Member Stanford moved for approval; the chair indicated item number 8 carries.
Under item 9 the board approved placement of three individuals on rehire lists: George Jorge Caloca (rehire list for deputy city marshal), Melina Walla Navarro (rehire list for law enforcement support technician) and Aubrey Underwood (rehire list for fire communication specialist). Member Stanford moved to approve item 9 as read and members recorded 'Aye' votes.
Deputy City Attorney Michelle Alaniz reminded the meeting that the public comment period is limited to matters on the agenda and noted a second opportunity for citizen participation later in the meeting. With no public commentators during the initial comment period, the board proceeded through its agenda and adjourned after completing the listed items.
