Oconomowoc Community Choir performs for council, announces Carnegie Hall trip

Members of the Oconomowoc Community Choir sang for the Common Council at the Jan. 6 meeting as part of the city's 150th celebration wrap-up. Tracy Garen, the choir's artistic director, told the council the group commissioned a song by a local resident, awards scholarships to student singers and plans fundraising events this year.
“This next year to kick off 2026, we will be heading to Carnegie Hall,” Garen said, adding that 34–35 choir members will travel to New York for performances Nov. 28–Dec. 2. She invited the community to attend local concerts and support the choir's fundraising plans, including a cookbook-style fundraiser tied to the group's Sacred Missions concert.
The choir performed “I Went for a Walk in Oconomowoc” and was applauded by council members. The mayor and council thanked the choir for the performance and for the group's community work, including caroling at Avenue Square and support for local events.
The choir's appearance was ceremonial and informational; it did not require council action. The council moved on to regular business after the presentation.
