Ohio County meeting in Beaver Dam approves routine business, advertises two hires and asks for streetlight fixes

Unidentified Speaker 1 reported on plans for an amphitheater upgrade and said the bid date is planned for Feb. 6 to align with the upcoming season. The board discussed a pending CDBG grant application submitted through "DLG"; members were told the county was asked to make an in-person presentation in Frankfort on Jan. 22 and that any award process could take many months. Speakers discussed the size of the application (described as up to $2,000,000) and a local match that some speakers estimated at a few thousand dollars.
On personnel, the board discussed a police candidate, Michael Tyler, described in the meeting as having 21 years of military service; Unidentified Speaker 4 recommended initiating his hiring steps and sending him to training, Speaker 3 moved to approve the recommendation, and Speaker 1 seconded the motion.
On public works, Speaker 4 brought up a safety concern about dark spots at the intersection of Hickory Drive and 231 and at nearby curves. Speaker 5 moved that the county contact Kentucky Utilities to check and resolve streetlight outages at Hickory and 231 (and an additional area near Rochester Road/Taylor Mine); the motion was seconded and passed after an aye vote.
The meeting closed routine business and moved into a broader discussion on housing (see separate article on the tiny homes ordinance). The board asked staff to draft items and follow up where appropriate; no final legal or budget commitments were announced for the grant or staffing beyond authorizing advertisement and hiring steps.
