The Yuma Union High School District’s director of finance provided the board with a monthly budget overview covering maintenance and operations (M&O), capital projects and student activity accounts.
The director (identified in the meeting as Brenda) told the board that M&O expenditures were approximately 36% of the budget year-to-date. She said the district’s capital budget is $11,087,304 with $2,500,361 spent to date, about 23% of the capital budget. For student activities, she reported an ending cash balance of $731,172.95 and a year-to-date student-activities deficit of $3,104.53, which she explained as meaning the activities program has spent more than it has taken in so far this fiscal year.
Board members asked whether school-level fixed interim budgets were subject to a use-or-lose rule; the director said schools are allowed to carry over up to 10% and amounts above that may be forfeited. The director emphasized that the monthly expenditure amounts shown are aggregates and not single large purchases.
The figures were presented as the monthly overview; board members offered brief praise for the report and no substantive budget action was taken at the meeting.
