Staff reported to the Town of Woodside Planning Commission on Jan. 14 that the town recorded 11 single‑family dwelling permits and 23 accessory dwelling unit (ADU) permits in 2025.
Sage, a planning staff member, said the numbers are counted by permits issued rather than permits finaled, which changes the methodology used in prior years and can affect year‑to‑year comparisons. Sage noted the town’s housing element target for ADUs is 15 per year, meaning Woodside exceeded that target in 2025. He added that the planning department had received several new applications in the prior two to three weeks and that more items would likely come before the commission in the first quarter of 2026.
Sage also reminded commissioners that two seats (Districts 1 and 3, including Vice Chair Matt Garr and Commissioner Apfel) have terms expiring in February and that applications are being accepted through Feb. 4. He said the town council can appoint a candidate from outside a district with a four‑fifths vote if no in‑district candidate applies, though the council typically prefers in‑district appointees.
Staff said next meeting dates are tentative and the Feb. 4 meeting will be confirmed two Fridays prior depending on emergent agenda items.
The planning department will continue monitoring permit activity and will present future updates and any housing‑element related items as they are scheduled.
