City plans $6.2 million 2026 resurfacing program to cover roughly 52 miles of streets

The Public Service, Public Utilities and Green Committee received details Tuesday on the city’s 2026 asphalt resurfacing program.
Service Director Chris Leto said the legislation authorizes contracts for asphalt concrete, pavement removal, microsurfacing, partial-depth resurfacing and preventative maintenance for the 2026 resurfacing program. He said the program’s budget is $6.2 million and that staff expects to resurface roughly 52 miles of streets in 2026. The city plans to advertise and bid the project next month and to award contracts in April when asphalt plants open.
Leto told the committee the appropriation covers materials and some in-house preventive work (for example, crack sealing) and that the city purchases certain items such as manhole riser rings to have on hand regardless of the awarded contractor. He noted the program is funded in part by Issue 4 allocations and special assessments and that the list of streets will be provided to ward members.
Committee members did not object to suspension of rules and staff planned to proceed with bidding. Leto said the city may add alternates to the contract if bids come in lower than engineer estimates.
