Palm Desert adopts 2025 California Building Standards Code (Ordinance No. 1439)

The Palm Desert City Council voted Jan. 8 to adopt Ordinance No. 1439, which amends Title 15 of the municipal code to adopt the 2025 California Building Standards Code.
Jason Finley, the city’s chief building official, presented the staff report and answered a council question about earthquake safety; he said modern code standards are conservative and generally make newly built structures the safest place to be during seismic events. There were no public speakers on the matter. Council opened and closed the required public hearing and approved the ordinance by unanimous vote (5-0).
Staff said the adoption finalizes local implementation of the statewide building code updates and allows the city to continue issuing permits under the latest standards.
