Board approves series of routine items: Carver plaque, STR extension, appointments, naming policy and other housekeeping

Carver boat launch commemorative plaque: Dan Johnson explained a request to place a commemorative stone honoring Bob Toman near the Carver Boat Launch; staff said Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife conveyed placement rights and private funds will cover costs. Commissioner Savas moved to approve staff’s Option 1 (place the stone and coordinate placement to avoid operational impacts); the motion passed 4–0.
Short-term rental pilot extension: Caroline Hill requested extending the STR pilot to allow broader outreach and a virtual town hall; the board moved to extend the pilot to June 30, 2026 and approved the extension 4–0. Staff said a survey and a virtual town hall in February are planned, with an in-person town hall at the mountain area in April.
Appointments: The board approved three Community Action Board appointments (Melissa Long, Brian Nava and Alisa/Alyssa Hutchins) and two Local Public Safety Coordinating Council appointments (Sean Drinkwine and Alice Perry) by unanimous vote.
Facilities naming policy: Finance Director Elizabeth Comfort presented an updated countywide facilities naming policy with clarifications on naming by asset, location and temporary paid namings; the board approved the update 4–0.
Justice of the Peace surety undertaking: Administrator Gary Schmidt explained that under the referenced Oregon statute a surety undertaking is required for new justices of the peace; the board authorized the undertaking for Justice Kathleen Rastetter as moved and seconded, and the motion passed 4–0.
Recess schedule and TriMet endorsement: The board approved its 2026 recess calendar (with planned conference travel) and unanimously endorsed Jeff Goodman as a District 7 nominee to the TriMet board and approved a draft support letter for signature.
