Husband Honors Late Educator Sylvia Cardenas, Cites Broad Community Impact

My name is Richard Cardenas, and I am the husband of Sylvia Cardenas, he said during a public comment.
Cardenas described Sylvia’s lifelong ties to the community, saying she attended the local elementary, middle and high schools and later graduated from college. "She wanted to give back to her community," he said, describing her decision to work in local education.
He told listeners that Sylvia’s first job was at Orlando High School, or Orlando ISD, and framed that choice as part of her commitment to students and families. "She wanted to give back," Cardenas said.
Cardenas emphasized the legacy she left with students and families: "The impact that she's had on kids and the families, the community," he said, noting that that influence was visible after her death.
He pointed to recent gatherings as evidence of that influence: "We saw that in her passing at the services and then also at the gym dedication. All these families and friends and former players... came out and have really, supported," Cardenas said.
Closing his remarks, Cardenas said Sylvia’s connection to the Harlem community was "very amazing," and that she "would be very honored" by the recognition from neighbors, former students and community members.
The comment was presented as a personal testimony and did not include requests for formal action or a motion.
