Fairport advances 8'12 course planning and rolls out SchoolLinks for scheduling and college applications

Fairport Central School District officials told the board they have finalized this year's course guide with a new focus on the 8'12 alignment that accompanies consolidation of facilities. Counselors, directors and building administrators collaborated to update electives, clarify graduation requirements and ensure a smooth 9th-grade transition.
The district highlighted three diploma pathways now emphasized to students (Regents, Regents with distinctions, and career/technical endorsements). District staff said they successfully reapproved three CTE endorsements (business & marketing, architecture, engineering), are pursuing an arts pathway, and will continue to offer dual-enrollment options with community colleges and universities.
To support long-term planning and seals tracking (for biliteracy and civic readiness), Fairport purchased SchoolLinks and is integrating its course-planning, workplace-learning and NCAA/college-application modules. Counselors will begin a phased roll-out of the course-planning module and will use SchoolLinks to track seals and endorsements, replacing Naviance for incoming cohorts; parents will access student information through their students' accounts.
Staff described a careful scheduling timeline: elective and teacher recommendations start in December, with family-facing sessions on Jan. 6 to share materials before winter break and scheduling activity in January. The counseling newsletter and elective information videos were praised by board members as critical resources for families navigating the expanded course and pathway options.
What happens next: Counselors will implement SchoolLinks, continue department-level scheduling meetings, and provide family information sessions in early January. The district plans to monitor the impact of consolidation on section counts and staffing needs before changing course offerings further.
