County announces public meetings for Community Wildfire Protection Plan

During the public‑comment portion of the Jan. 7 meeting, Jim Shattuck read a press release announcing that Custer County contracted with Fire Adapt Colorado to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). The county will hold two public participation sessions: a virtual meeting on Thursday, Jan. 8, 5:30–7:00 p.m., and an in‑person session at Lang Hall on Saturday, Jan. 10, 10:00–11:30 a.m. Public comments on the draft will be accepted through Jan. 15 and a public comment response form will be posted on the county website.
Shattuck described the CWPP as a document that identifies wildfire risk, recommends mitigation strategies and outlines actions residents and agencies can take to reduce wildfire impacts. County staff said meeting links and the response form will be posted on the county website and suggested posting on the sheriff’s web page as well.
The board did not take formal action on the CWPP during the meeting; the announcement was informational and intended to encourage community participation in plan development.
