Roseville — The Roseville City Council on Oct. 14 approved two single-source purchases: a 20-ton Trane rooftop unit for the Police and Court building from Dunbar Mechanical, and 832 city-branded 96-gallon garbage carts from Cascade Cart Solutions under Sourcewell pricing.
Public Works staff told the council the existing rooftop unit was about 30 years old and that repair estimates exceeded $30,000. "We feel it's in the best interest just to replace that unit, through a single source bid," a city staff member said, noting the purchase would be paid from bond funds.
On refuse carts, Public Works said Cascade originally supplied carts in 2014 and staff considered continuity and government pricing in recommending Cascade under Sourcewell. "These carts...have held up the best," the presenter said, explaining the order of 832 units equals one truckload and produces shipping savings. Delivery timing was not yet established.
Council members asked about the single-source justification. Staff said Cascade was the only vendor offering Sourcewell government pricing and has long-standing service to city equipment. Council moved and approved both purchases by voice vote.
What happens next: Staff will schedule procurement and deliveries; the city manager and Public Works will coordinate distribution plans for the carts and plan installation of the HVAC unit with bond fund accounting.
