Council approves first reading of budget supplemental ordinance to fund cemetery survey, parks projects and transfers

On Nov. 18 the Lafayette City Council approved the first reading of Ordinance No. 26, Series 2025, a supplemental budget ordinance addressing unanticipated 2025 revenues and expenditures. Chief Financial Officer Heather Walser outlined highlights: an additional $83,000 in the general fund for ground-penetrating radar services; $1,000,000 in the post fund for park design and construction; $150,000 in the insurance fund; and several transfers from the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA) for property purchase and streetscape and revitalization projects.
Walser said net impact across funds shows approximately $2,750,000 in revenue and $2,984,000 in expenses for a net impact of about $234,000. Council asked questions and then approved the first reading unanimously.
The ordinance will return for second reading as required by council procedures.
