Local foods coalition says state extended equipment reimbursement deadline for small food businesses

Ivor Williams of the San Luis Valley Local Foods Coalition briefed the board on an extension to a Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) equipment reimbursement program intended to help small food retailers and family farms purchase equipment for selling healthy food in low-access areas.
"They have decided to extend that out," Williams said, referring to the CDA deadline. He explained that while Dec. 31 remains a recommended target, applicants may now file for reimbursement for the 2025 fund year as long as they have not yet filed their 2025 taxes. Williams said roughly $10 million was allocated for 2025 and that, based on a recent meeting, about $200,000 in tax credits had been claimed so far.
Williams asked commissioners to share the information with eligible businesses and offered to follow up by email with application details. Commissioners thanked him for the outreach. The board did not take formal action on the item but accepted the presentation.
