Custer County to issue RFP for childcare needs assessment; grant expected to cover cost

Custer County commissioners voted to issue a request for proposals for a Childcare and Early Childhood Needs Assessment and financial ecosystem analysis.
A county official said the project will follow a process similar to the recent housing needs assessment done with neighboring towns and that the grant secured for the work appears to cover 100% of the cost. "So I'll make a motion to move to accept the Custer County Childcare and Early Childhood Needs Assessment request for proposal," a commissioner said; the motion was seconded and approved.
Separately during administrative updates a commissioner noted an opioid-related grant opportunity of up to $750,000 to consolidate social services into a single building, and staff said they will seek assistance with the grant application. Commissioners described the childcare RFP as a pass-through process if the grant fully covers the study.
Next steps: issue the RFP publicly, evaluate proposals and return results to the board; grant administration and award details will be reported to the board when available.
