Mayor asks Sumner County for city’s share of library bequest; committee seeks requested documentation

Mayor Jamie Cleary updated the finance committee that he had sent a letter to Sumner County asking for Hendersonville’s share of a $320,000 bequest to the Hendersonville Public Library. The mayor said the city believes it is a 50% owner of the bequest and asked the county to remit $161,000 to the city.
County staff replied with a letter requesting permit documentation for certain work and confirmation that Adequate Facilities Tax (AFT) obligations have been paid. City staff said the county’s requested items relate to recent permit and AFT compliance, and staff will gather the records and provide the information at a future finance committee meeting.
Committee members discussed the possibility of intergovernmental dispute and noted that if the parties cannot agree, litigation would be a county decision in the AFT matter and the city might consider legal action for the library bequest. Staff recommended continuing discussion in January after collecting the requested documentation.
