Library board approves $4,000 arts-endowment allocation for three programming initiatives

The Petersburg Public Library Board voted unanimously Dec. 16 to allocate $4,000 from the library's Arts Education Endowment to fund three proposed programming initiatives.
The board discussed the request during its agenda item on endowment spending. Members clarified that approving the current proposals would not prevent the board from considering additional requests later in the year. The motion to allocate the funds was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Director Tara O'Huff explained that one of the proposals includes funding teen seats in classes and that instructors are typically paid per seat. "In this proposal ... teen seats in all of our classes, $2,000," she said, describing the board's intent to make youth seats available without raising participant costs.
Board members noted the endowment's growing spendable balance from recent activity and suggested using funds to both increase instructor pay and keep class prices low for residents. The board emphasized that these allocations are the first of potentially several funding requests that may come forward during the fiscal year.
The vote was recorded by voice as passing without opposition. No individual roll-call votes were recorded in the minutes available during the meeting.
Next steps: staff will implement the approved allocations as outlined in the submitted spreadsheet and bring any subsequent funding requests to the board for approval.
