Rankin County supervisors reviewed the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District (CMPDD) call for STBG projects and instructed staff to submit several applications with specified local match percentages.
Staff presented the shortlist of candidate projects — East Metro Parkway, Greenfield Road, Fannie Landing Circle, Trickham Bridge, and Foxhall Road bridge — and explained how CMPDD scoring weights pavement condition, traffic counts and requested funding. Staff told the board the CMPDD call for projects must be submitted by Jan. 30 and a county resolution confirming local match would be required at the Jan. 15 meeting.
After debate about the county’s chance to win awards and whether to raise the local match to boost points, the board approved submitting East Metro Parkway at a 20% local match, Trickham Bridge at a 30% local match to improve scoring, and Foxhall Road bridge at 20% (motion carried by voice vote). Staff cautioned that even with higher local match the county faces competition for roughly $11 million available in the MPO area and that projects may not be funded for several years following selection.
The board instructed staff to finalize application packages and to prepare the matching‑funds resolution for the January 15 meeting.
