The Rankin County Planning Commission on Nov. 26 set public hearings for multiple land‑use applications, directing staff to bring several conditional‑use and rezoning cases back for formal hearings.
Commissioners voted to set Scott Sanders' conditional‑use permit for a 2,300‑square‑foot home with a metal exterior at 216 Kitty Hawk Circle for a Dec. 1 hearing. A separate motion set items 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 — which include rezoning requests, short‑term rental permits, accessory dwelling unit requests and a proposed manufactured home on family land — for Dec. 15; item 6 was removed from that grouping.
Staff had introduced the items earlier: Kevin Johnson seeks rezoning of 4.2 acres from RE‑1 to C‑2 for a climate‑controlled self‑storage facility; Juan Pablo Muñoz seeks a conditional‑use permit for a short‑term rental at 411 Pelican Way; Joseph Lindsey proposed an 1,800‑sq. ft. accessory dwelling unit at 944 Tricken Bridal Road; Kenneth Kirsch requested placement of a manufactured home on a 1.34‑acre parcel; and others were previewed during the meeting.
The motions were made and seconded by commissioners and carried by voice vote. Setting the hearings moves each application into the formal public‑hearing process, where staff reports, public testimony and a final commission decision will follow.
Next steps: the listed items will appear on the Dec. 1 and Dec. 15 public‑hearing agendas; applicants and neighbors will be notified according to county procedure.
