District 70 accepts donations, recognizes schools and highlights Elks Lodge youth programs

At its Aug. 5 meeting, the Pueblo County School District 70 board accepted a series of gifts and heard community presentations about youth scholarships and activities.
Superintendent Ryan reported an in-kind donation of roughly 125 executive chairs from Parker Excavating, which were distributed to principals, secretaries and counselors for classroom use. The historical society donated 13 copies of A Bushel and a Peck of Pueblo's Best for elementary schools, valued at $195. Javen Baker, Pueblo West athletic director, said Leslie and Sherilyn Brown donated $5,000 to the softball program and Careers in Construction donated $1,760 for CTE industry certification costs. Coach Lisa at Rye High School thanked San Isabel for a $500 donation to help with color guard transportation and uniform expenses.
Catherine McGibbon of the Elks Lodge described national scholarship programs, legacy awards and local youth activities including drug-awareness outreach and the hoop shoot and soccer shoot competitions. Elks volunteers asked the district to help advertise and provide logistical support for hoop shoot events (ages 8–13) and the lodge offered to work with Vineland Middle School and other sites to re-start competitions.
Board members moved to accept the gifts as presented; the motion carried on voice responses recorded in the Aug. 5 transcript.
