Pitkin County commissioners acting as the local liquor licensing authority approved a special-event liquor permit for the Colorado Mountain College Aspen campus on Dec. 17.
Sam Ingen, county liquor-license coordinator, described the application for a new teaching-kitchen location (0255 Sage Way, Room 121) and said the applicant requested eight events during January–April evenings, each scheduled from about 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. CMC's presenters — John Shaw, associate dean, and Louisa Goldsmith, a TIPS‑trained sommelier and instructor — said the classes are intended to educate on food-and-wine pairing, emphasize tasting rather than drinking, and provide individually plated tastings for students.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about the permit limits and noted CMC already holds a retail establishment permit for its gallery. No public comments were received during the hearing; Commissioner Patty moved to approve the special-event permit and the board voted in favor.
What happens next: The license will be issued for the specified events; staff noted CMC may apply for additional permits later in 2026 if demand warrants.
